A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of another man that happened in February 2024. On Feb. 26 around 6 p.m., Edmonton police were called to the area of 106 Street and 74 Avenue for multiple reports of gunshots. Officers searched the area but didn’t find anything suspicious, according to a news release. Around 11:20 p.m. the same day, officers responded to a home in the same area for a report of a body. Ozan Budak, 34, was found dead by police and paramedics. An autopsy several days later revealed the cause of death to be gunshot wounds and the death was considered a homicide. Arthur Wayne Penner, 36, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to Budak’s death. Penner was already in custody in relation to the death of Colin John Hough of Airdrie and the attempted murder of another person on Aug. 6, 2024. Penner faces a first-degree murder and attempted murder charge in those cases. RCMP believe Hough stopped to offer help when he saw a truck on fire. Hough was fatally shot and another man managed to escape after also being shot. A second man was arrested in relation to the August incident in September 2024. Penner is set to appear in court on Oct. 23 in relation to Budak’s death, according to police.
