A small town in northern Saskatchewan is reeling after a woman and her three children were found dead in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.

The woman and young children were discovered early Wednesday in a residence in the town of Tisdale.

Family has identified the mother as Latasha Gosling, 27, and her children: Jenika, 8, Landen, 7, and Janayah, 4.

Police say they believe the sole suspect killed the family, then took a six-month-old baby and travelled to Prince Albert, about 130 kilometres away.

Investigators found a man dead at a home there early Wednesday morning. The child was with him in the residence. Latasha Gosling is believed to be the mother of the infant.

“I can tell you that the infant is uninjured and is currently in the care of family,” RCMP spokesperson Mandy Maier told reporters Wednesday.

The suspect’s death is being described as a suicide.

Police were first alerted to a problem Tuesday evening, when a family member reported that the woman and her children had not been heard from all day and were “unreachable,” Maier said.

Several hours later, Tisdale RCMP officers found the four dead in Wicks’ Mobile Home Park. The investigation then led police to the Prince Albert residence.

Maier said there is no risk to public safety and investigators do not anticipate laying any criminal charges relating to these four deaths.

She also said two other adults were also at the Prince Albert residence, but they are not expected to be charged.

Police have not said how the four individuals died, but believe they were killed before they were reported missing.

Maier would not comment on the relationship between the suspect and Latasha Gosling, but he was known to the family.

According to Gosling’s aunt, the killer was the infant’s father, The Canadian Press reported.

The victims were described as a nice family who had been living in the trailer park for about eight months.

“We never had no complaints about them … they always paid their rent on time,” said Laurie Wicks. “They seemed like a very nice young family.”

Tisdale Mayor Al Jellicoe expressed “profound grief” for the victims and family.

“We’re a very close-knit community and when a tragic event happens here, it affects us all,” Jellicoe said.

Jellicoe also asked the media to “be respectful of boundaries as we grieve this tragic loss.”

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost of funeral arrangements. By Wednesday evening, nearly $25,000 had been raised through the online fundraiser.

Latasha Gosling’s cousin Tim Funk wrote on Facebook that any money left over will be put into a trust fund for the surviving infant.

Funk told CTV News he is still in shock over the tragedy.

“I’m trying to keep busy helping out,” he said. “Lots of people have been up since one in the morning since they found out, and they haven’t been to bed yet.”

Grief counsellors are available at Tisdale Elementary School to help the town of 3,200 cope with the deaths.

Jellicoe said the incident will be “with us forever.”

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall offered support to the people of Tisdale.

“Whatever is needed in terms of support for the community, to help them get through this, we’ll make sure those resources are available,” Wall said.

Autopsies to determine the exact cause of death have been scheduled.
