A McDonald’s restaurant in Regina riled up local anger after a transparent glass window was installed in a bathroom door that allowed guests to peer into the men’s washroom.

“It makes me feel disgusted and gross. I hope no other McDonald’s would follow suit,” Michael Baumet, who snapped a picture of the window, told CTV Regina.

The window was installed inside the McDonald’s at Dewdney Avenue and Albert Street.

Images of the door show a large, clear window at about waist-height. The bathroom’s sinks and hand dryer are clearly visible.

The window may seem like an invasion of privacy, but it isn’t against the law to have one, according to local officials.

“The City of Regina enforces the National Building Code of Canada. The National Building Code of Canada does allow the window,” said Louise Folk, director of development services for the City of Regina.

But it appears the window will soon be replaced.

McDonald’s told CTV Regina that installing a door with a window was a mistake, and that a frosted glass window was intended to help let more light inside.

The restaurant has covered the clear glass and the company says a new door is on the way.
