Police say they were contacted in November 2012 by a 16-year-old girl who said she was threatened on her Facebook account by someone she didn't know.
Police say the girl was told to provide naked pictures of herself or the suspect would post private photos of her that were in his possession.
Police say a search warrant was carried out at a Halifax home on Thursday and computer equipment seized.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and faces charges of extortion, distributing child pornography, possession of child pornography and mischief.
The teen is to appear in Halifax Youth Court Dec. 5.
