A judicial hearing has begun in Calgary for Justice Robin Camp, who asked a complainant at a sexual assault trial in 2014 why she couldn't just keep her knees together.

Yesterday, that woman told the hearing that the experience made her contemplate suicide.

She says Camp's attitude toward her made her feel like a slut and hate herself.

Camp's comments led the Alberta Appeal Court to order a new trial for the man he acquitted.

Court transcripts show Camp questioned the woman's morals, suggested her attempts to fight off the man were feeble and described her as "the accused" throughout the trial.

The Canadian Judicial Council committee is considering whether Camp should be removed from the bench because of his remarks in the case.

His daughter, Lauren Camp, wrote a letter to the committee revealing she was the victim of a sexual assault a number of years ago.

She says some of her father's words were painful for her to hear, but says he has learned from his disgrace and now speaks with new sensitivity and understanding.
