Woman injured, dog dead in Calgary house fire

Calgary police and the Calgary Fire Department are investigating a house fire in Shaganappi on March 2, 2026.

Officials say one dog died and a woman was taken to hospital following an early morning house fire in southwest Calgary.

At about 1:20 a.m. Monday, emergency crews were called to a single-family home in the 2700 block of 16 Avenue S.W. in the community of Shaganappi.

When the Calgary Fire Department arrived, they found two bystanders administering CPR to a woman, who turned out to be the basement tenant of the home.

EMS took over first-aid, and the woman began to breathe again. She was taken to hospital.

Firefighters entered the home and rescued one dog but found another dead

The fire was quickly contained with minimal damage to the structure.

The CFD and Calgary police are investigating the cause.
