A water main break early Tuesday morning flooded two houses and formed a river down Haddon Road in the city’s southwest. Calgary Fire Department said the break happened around 5:30 a.m. in the backyard of a house on the corner of Haddon Road and 94 Avenue S.W. Initial attempts to shut off the water were unsuccessful, but city crews managed to turn it off around 7:30 a.m. CFD said the basements of two homes were flooded. Firefighters could be seen using pumps to try to get the water out of them. Fire crews also laid pylons around the streaming water and gravel to try to prevent ice buildup on the road. CTV News has reached out to the city to find out how many homes are affected by the shut-off. This comes as Calgary is under water restrictions due to repairs on the Bearspaw South feeder main. The fire department says this break will affect water conservation, but it’s still too early to tell how.
