Victim in deadly Ogden shooting previously charged, acquitted in 2020 homicide

Police have identified the victim of Wednesday's deadly shooting in Ogden. They believe the killing was targeted and tied to organized crime.

A man killed by gunfire on Wednesday in Ogden was charged and acquitted in another deadly shooting in 2020.

Police say Feysal Osman Abdul-Aziz, 32, was found shot to death outside his vehicle at 12:30 a.m. in the 7000 block of 20th Street S.E.

Abdul-Aziz is the same man charged with second-degree murder in the 2020 death of 20-year-old Abdurhaman Oma Indiris.

Indiris died in a shooting in the early morning hours of Sept. 12, 2020, outside Portico Hookah Lounge in the 1800 block of 35th Street S.E.

Police at the time said the shooting happened when an argument between two groups escalated.

Abdul-Aziz, then 27, was the second person charged in Indiris’ killing.

He was ultimately acquitted.

Abdul-Aziz was also charged as part of an organized crime crackdown in 2022 and convicted of firearms offences in 2023.

This week’s deadly shooting

Reports of gunfire brought officers out to where Abdul-Aziz was found on Wednesday, shot dead.

Less than an hour later, around 1:20 a.m., Calgary police say Tsuut’ina Nation police “observed a blue Nissan Sentra driving aggressively, turning southbound near the Elbow River bridge onto Weaselhead Road.”

“Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver initially fled,” officials said.

“The vehicle eventually came to a stop near Buffalo Run Boulevard, and four men fled on foot.”

According to police, three of the four suspects were caught and taken into custody.

The fourth remains at large.

“It is believed the fourth man fled over the Stoney Trail pedestrian bridge into the community of Woodbine,” officials said.

“It is possible the fourth man may have accessed the communities of Oakridge, Cedarbrae and Palliser.”

Police describe the fourth suspect as “having a dark complexion, wearing dark clothing and shoes.”

“He may have approached members of the public after 1:20 a.m., seeking help or requesting a ride to another location,” officials said.

Anyone who was approached by someone they believe to be this individual is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Anyone with relevant video is also asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.

Shooting believed targeted

Abdul-Aziz was identified by police following an autopsy conducted Thursday.

He is counted as Calgary’s 14th homicide of 2025.

“This is a targeted incident that is believed to have connections to organized crime,” said Acting Insp. Darren Smith with the major crimes section.

“While homicides have decreased compared to previous years, we fully understand the deep impact violence has on the community, even if there is no current or active risk to the public at this time.

“Our members continue to work diligently to advance the investigation, which is still in its early stages.”

As of Thursday afternoon...

Of the three men taken into custody early Wednesday morning, one has since been released.

Police say the other two are being kept on unrelated warrants.

“These individuals are not residents of the Tsuut’ina Nation,” officials said.

During the investigation, a burned-out vehicle was located west of Weaselhead Road on Tsuut’ina Nation.

Investigators are not yet certain whether it’s connected.
