The Confluence unveils new plans for layout, including gardens, stage

The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland revealed future site plans with renderings on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Officials with The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland have announced big changes to the site over the next two decades.

Formerly known as Fort Calgary, the museum and event centre that sits on the birthplace of modern-day Calgary announced a rebrand in 2024, then began undergoing a major renovation.

On Tuesday, officials shared artist renderings and a concept plan for how the site will continue to evolve over the next 20 years.

Plans for the 42-acre site include new pathways, gardens and amenities, including a powwow arbour, outdoor hockey rink and covered stage with seating for 3,000-5,000 and capacity for another 13,000 on the concert lawn.

“The plan presents a cohesive design that honours the site’s history, while supporting community activation to bring greater culture, safety, vitality and economic benefit to downtown’s east end,” said a Wednesday news release.

Developed by O2 Planning and Design in collaboration with Hatlie Group and Reimagine Architects, officials say the plan was informed by “extensive community engagement” that included Indigenous community members, connected organizations, community members, site visitors and Calgarians across the city.

The key themes that emerged from engagement were then incorporated into the plan.

Officials say the vision presented considers the site’s place amid ongoing developments underway for East Village, The Culture and Entertainment District, Glenbow, Stephen Avenue, Olympic Plaza Transformation and the Sixth Street underpass.
