Calgary police say they’ve charged two men in connection with a string of costly commercial break-ins. One incident police believe the duo is responsible for saw “approximately $100,000 worth of specialized and custom electrical equipment” stolen. According to police, that happened in late July in the city’s southeast. The suspects were arrested on Aug. 18, after police connected them to several incidents between May and August, including that one. Police also searched a home in the 100 block of Riverstone Close S.E. on Aug. 18. Police say they’ve since returned more than $30,000 worth of assorted goods to the businesses they were stolen from. Staff Sgt. Joe Hebert says the investigation demonstrates “the value of collaboration” between various police units. “Through diligent investigative work, officers were able to connect multiple property crimes, recover stolen property and hold those responsible accountable,” Hebert said. “We remain committed to disrupting prolific offenders and returning stolen property to victims whenever possible.” A 38-year-old man is charged with break-and-enter to commit theft under $5,000, break-and-enter to commit theft over $5,000, disguise with intent, break-and-enter and commit mischief to property over $5,000, possession of stolen property, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. A 37-year-old man is charged with break-and-enter to commit theft under $5,000, break-and-enter to commit theft over $5,000, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving while prohibited and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
