Surge drop 6th in a row in CEBL championship rematch, losing to River Lions

The Surge and the Sea Lions met in a rematch of the 2025 CEBL championship game Wednesday night in Niagara.

The losses continued to pile up for the Calgary Surge Wednesday as they dropped an 88-76 decision to the defending CEBL champion Niagara River Lions.

The defeat dropped the Surge to 0-6 on the season.

Led by Sean “Rugzy” Miller-Moore’s 18 points, the Surge came out firing in the first half. When Calgary attacked the basket, they scored, but errant 3-point shooting prevented them from building any sort of substantial lead as they went to the break ahead 46-43.

The Surge were 1 for 19 from beyond the arc on the night.

Niagara took the lead late in the third quarter and never trailed after that.

They were helped greatly by their defensive adjustments on Miller-Moore, who was limited to two second-half points after going off for 18 in the first half.

Miller-Moore finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists and was named the Surge Player of the Game.

The game was a rematch of the 2025 CEBL league championship, which Niagara won.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Surge will take on Saskatoon in Whitehorse, Yukon, on July 3. It will be the first professional basketball game ever played in Yukon.
