The Strathcona Mounted Troop Musical Ride is making its debut at this year’s Whoop-Up Days. Made up of soldiers from Lord Strathcona’s Horse of the Canadian Troops based in Edmonton, the musical ride draws its inspiration from the original ceremonial mounted troops, which formed in 1923. The troops are performing the musical ride twice a day in the grandstand at this year’s festival. “It’s our western heritage,” says Paul Kingsmith from Excite Lethbridge. “It’s our history – and the equine history that goes along with the Canadian army is something that they celebrate and they put forward and you know, here, these grounds, have historic connections that go back to the military as well as our western heritage and the agriculture side – so it really is a perfect tie-in and the show they put on is really incredible. There is one more opportunity to catch this year’s musical ride Wednesday night at 7 o’clock. For more about Whoop-Up days, go here.
