Southland Leisure Centre pool closing for 3 months starting Sept. 2

The pool at Calgary’s Southland Leisure Centre will close for electrical repairs starting Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The repairs are being done in stages at all of the City of Calgary’s 13 aquatic facilities after electrical reviews determined they were required.

Repairs began in 2024 and are expected to wrap up in 2027.

On its website, the City of Calgary says while facilities are closed for electrical repairs, they’ll look at opportunities to do things like improve lighting, upgrade HVAC equipment, modernize pool equipment and paint and repair tiles, drainage and flooring.

The repairs at the Southland Leisure Centre’s pool are expected to be completed in December 2025.

In addition to the pool being closed, the gym, fitness centre, weight room and multipurpose rooms will also close on Sept. 2, but for a much shorter period; they’ll be off limits until Sunday, Sept. 7 as they undergo annual maintenance and cleaning.
