Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Calgary

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Calgary on Friday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada posted the advisory shortly after 11 a.m. on its website.

“Conditions are favourable over southern Alberta for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy downpours,” it posted.

“Thunderstorms will form this afternoon and early this evening and move generally eastward.”

The forecast for folk fest weekend in Calgary calls for a mixture of showers and sun Friday and Saturday, with temperatures in the teens.
