Rockslide closes Highway 93 near Alberta-B.C. boundary

A rock slide on Highway 93 closed the highway in both directions Wednesday.

Traffic is shut down in both directions on Highway 93 in B.C. following a rockslide on Wednesday.

DriveBC reported the incident is between the west boundary of Kootenay National Park and McKay Creek, approximately one kilometre north of Radium Hot Springs, B.C.

It’s not believed that anyone was injured when the rocks tumbled onto the road.

Parks Canada posted an update on social media, adding that the Radium Hot Springs pools remain closed until the highway reopens.

It said that following an engineer assessment, slope stabilization and debris removal work is underway to ensure public safety and support a safe reopening of the highway.

The highway and hot springs are expected to remain closed until Thursday afternoon.
