Federal Minister Eleanor Olszewski was in Calgary today promoting Ottawa’s 2025 budget and its new Climate Competitiveness Strategy. Speaking to a crowd at the University of Calgary’s IEEE building, Edmonton MP Olszewski -- the Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada -- said the strategy aims to strengthen Canada’s position in a low-carbon global economy by investing in clean growth technologies, tax credits and industrial resilience. Olszewski did not make any new announcements, instead focusing on how Budget 2025 aligns climate action with long-term economic growth. Following her speech, the minister held informal discussions with Calgary business and education leaders about how the budget’s climate action plan could impact Alberta’s economy. The Climate Competitiveness Strategy pledges to boost investment in clean energy, critical minerals and emissions-reduction technologies to help Canada maintain its place among the world’s most advanced economies.
