New Heritage Park locomotive takes inaugural spin

A new locomotive is part of Heritage Park’s collection after nearly 60 years.

Dignitaries including Alberta Premier Danielle Smith celebrating Friday as the newly restored 1951 diesel-electric locomotive takes its inaugural trip around the park.

This is the park’s first-ever winter train ride, and it is complete with onboard entertainment for all ages.

Heritage Park officials say this “significant moment in prairie history,” happened thanks to Prairies Economic Development Canada , Travel Alberta and the City of Calgary.

Visitors will be able to hop on the train and take a trip down memory lane starting Saturday during Once Upon a Christmas.
