Mother’s Day weekend can be hard for anyone who is grieving the death of their mother. Motherless Day took place Saturday evening at the Blox Art Centre located at 834 11 Ave S.W. It was organized by Jordan Clermont, a musician whose mother died in January 2024, who wanted to help people through their grief. “I know how isolating it can feel even when you are going through it,” he says. “We just wanted to create a space where people could come and feel grief.” Clermont’s sister is also a musician, and they have both found comfort in music and art. He says putting his grief to music has helped the healing process. “It kind of feels like you take it out of yourself and put it in a container and it’s still there,” he says. “I go back and I hear the lyrics and they’re still meaning new things to me as I change.” Twenty-five people attended the event; many made cards and shared memories of their moms.
