An investigation is underway into a structure fire in southeast Calgary Monday afternoon. Crews responded to the 3400 block of 56 Avenue S.E. at around 3:40 p.m., where they discovered a Burnbrae Farms egg warehouse engulfed in flames. Warehouse workers met them outside, informing them about a fire inside the storage room. They said they tried using a dry chemical extinguisher to put it out, but when it didn’t work, they departed the building. Calgary Fire Department public information officer Alex Kwan said there were no injuries and all the workers were accounted for. A news release from Calgary fire said crews stretched multiple hose lines inside the building to put the fire out. Crews encountered heavy smoke, which made it difficult to find the seat of the fire, so they brought in a large fan to remove smoke. Extra trucks were called in as crews rotate and continue to attack the fire, and crews remained on scene for several hours, the release said. A third alarm was called for additional resources and to replace the initial responding crews. In total, 60 firefighters and 25 apparatus attended the scene. Fire crews remain on site to make sure the fire is completely extinguished. A release from the department says a fire investigator will return once the fire is completely extinguish to see what caused the blaze.
