An investigation into a Thursday morning blaze on is underway in an industrial area in southeast Calgary. Just before noon, fire crews responded to the 400 block of Manitou Road for reports of a structure fire. They arrived at a single-story warehouse that appeared to have dark smoke coming from behind it in a green space area, Calgary Fire Department public information officer Alex Kwan said. Firefighters stretched a hose around the side of the warehouse, where they discovered a trailer that had been repurposed into an encampment burning. Kwan says the trailer contained different items including wires and compressed gas tanks. The fire had burned right through the walls of the trailer and caused minor damage to the nearby warehouse exterior. Crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading into the warehouse. No one was on site and no injuries were reported. An investigator confirmed that the fire originated in the trailer.
