Teamworks Career Centre hosted another of its job fairs at the Lethbridge Trade and Convention Centre on Thursday. Job seekers turned up in droves in hopes of connecting with employers. Teamworks’ semi-annual job fairs have become increasingly popular. This time, hundreds came to meet dozens of employers. “(It’s) already been a really busy day,” said Barb Wolstoncroft, Teamworks general manager. “We’ve had hundreds of job seekers in the first couple of hours, and we’re hoping to have about 1,200 people show up today.” Many job hunters report having a difficult time finding employment. Events like this offer the opportunity to apply for several jobs in one day. “They’re struggling a little bit,” Wolstoncroft said. “There’s been some businesses who’ve been doing some layoffs, so those people are trying to really quickly re-engage with the labour market and are finding it a bit challenging.” Many employers have also had a tough time finding qualified candidates. Some have found promoting jobs online doesn’t always get the desired result. “Been a little bit slim pickings for some of our positions,” said Neil Price, Southwest Design and Construction sales and business development manager. “This show has shown us there are good candidates out there, (and) it’s just a matter of finding a way to find them.” Employers still see events like this one as beneficial. “You can’t just hire off of a resume alone, which is why we do interviews, of course,” said Dayna Vanderhulst, Mountain View Precast human resources manager. “But being able to meet with the individual right here at the site or at the event partner is invaluable.” In January 2026, Lethbridge’s unemployment rate was 7.4 per cent while the Alberta average was 6.6 per cent.
