Hobbits to make the journey back to Calgary next spring

In an epic announcement Wednesday, the Calgary Expo said four courageous Hobbits who helped save Middle-earth from the dark power of the One Ring will return to the city next year.

Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan will appear live on stage for the 2026 edition of the Calgary Expo.

The event, called An Evening with the Hobbits, comes on the 25th anniversary of the release of The Fellowship of the Ring, the first time the group appeared on screen as the heroic Hobbits.

“Fans are delighted whenever we host these gentlemen individually — but together, the energy is electric,” said Andrew Moyes, vice-president of the Fan Expo HQ.

“Their characters are beloved, their friendship is indelible, and the joy they bring to audiences is unmatched. We can’t wait to present this special anniversary celebration in 2026.”

Officials say the event will be much more than anything the Expo has held before.

“An Evening with the Hobbits is part variety show, part storytelling session, and all fun. No two nights will be the same — fans can expect a lively mix of behind-the-scenes memories, on-stage antics, heartfelt reflections, and plenty of laughs along the way.”

Tickets go on sale starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 22 the Calgary Expo’s website. Admission to the Expo itself will also be required to attend.

Officials say VIP experiences, along with photo opportunities and autograph sessions will also be available.

Organizers also teased other Lord of the Rings guest appearances at next year’s show but did not provide further details.

The Calgary Expo runs from April 23 to 26, 2026, at Calgary’s Stampede Park.
