Hitmen hit the jackpot in third OT to subdue Wheat Kings 1-0 in thrilling WHL playoff opener

The Calgary Hitmen celebrate following Ethan Moore's goal in the third overtime Friday night, giving them a 1-0 win over Brandon.

Ethan Moore scored 5:11 into the third overtime to give the Calgary Hitmen a 1-0 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings Friday night in Game 1 of their WHL playoff series.

It was the second-longest game in Hitmen history. The longest was a game against Kamloops in May, 1999.

Hitmen goaltender Eric Tu stopped all 49 shots the Wheat Kings fired at him, including one on a Jimmy Egan penalty shot in the second overtime.

The Hitmen fired 65 shots at Filip Ruzicka, who stopped 64 of them.

Game 2 is Sunday night at the Saddledome. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
