Glass Tiger to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame

Glass Tiger member Alan Frew discusses the band’s induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Glass Tiger will be among the inductees to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this month at Calgary’s National Music Centre.

It’s a moment lead singer Alan Frew embraces with pride.

“It just really shows young people that if you have the receptivity and the desire, and the belief and the intention, and you take action on your dreams, you can make them come true,” Frew told CTV News.

Glass Tiger’s first hit Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone) was certified platinum in Canada in 1986, and earned the band a Juno for Single of the Year.

“My first band imploded, and I went into the medical field and I became an orderly, and then I assisted in autopsies, and then I became a registered nurse, and then along came the second band… and the rest is history,” Frew said.

More recently, Frew recorded Free to Be Strong and Free as Canadians responded with overt patriotism amidst threats from the U.S.

“This is not a political song. It’s not an anti-Trump or American song. It’s a song that I wrote to the majesty and the tapestry of this nation, having travelled it from east to west, and north to south, over and over and over again.”

The exhibition for Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees Glass Tiger, Dan Hill, Ginette Reno and Loreena McKennitt runs until February 2026.
