A prospect with the Calgary Flames is in court on Monday to defend himself from charges stemming from a bar fight back in 2012. On July 29, 2012, an incident took place outside a bar in Cochrane. Michael Ferland, who was drafted by the Flames in 2010 during the fifth round, was charged after a man was rushed to the hospital with a fractured orbital bone. The Crown contends that the young man committed aggravated assault, by Ferland’s defence is insisting that he is innocent. The Flames say they’ve met with Ferland and ‘are taking steps to acquire information as it related to the situation’. The trial, being heard by a jury, is expected to last two weeks.
