Fatal crash in northwest Calgary under investigation

Calgary police say a 20-year-old man died following a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Aug. 24, 2025.

Calgary police are investigating after a man died in an overnight crash.

Officials said the incident, involving a motorcycle and an SUV, took place around 11:57 p.m. near the intersection of 16 Avenue and 10 Street N.W.

Police say a 20-year-old man was killed.

Officials said an SUV, driven by a woman in her 30s, was turning from southbound 10 Street to eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. when the victim, who was riding a motorcycle, approached the intersection from the west at a high rate of speed.

Police said the motorcycle struck the SUV, tossing the motorcyclist from the vehicle.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition where he ultimately died of his injuries.

Several roads, including east and westbound 16 Avenue and north and southbound 10 Street N.W., were closed for several hours.

These closures have since been lifted.

Police believe speed was to blame for the crash.
