Drugs, firearms seized from Medicine Hat home; 2 charged in connection: police

More than $100,000 worth of cocaine was seized from a Medicine Hat home last week, police in the southeast Alberta city say.

During a search warrant at a home along the 300 block of Stratton Way S.E., police say they found and seized more than 1,000 grams of cocaine, 13.5 grams of meth and nearly $19,000 in cash.

Police say several firearms were also seized, as were a number of other weapons.

Police say the search warrant was part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.

Forty-five-year-old Sean Bowers and 41-year-old Ashley Barker, both from Medicine Hat, were arrested.

Bowers is charged with:

• possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
• possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
• possession of proceeds of crime;
• breaching a firearms prohibition (x9);
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2);
• possession of a loaded restricted firearm;
• unsafe storage of a firearm;
• defacing or removing a firearm serial number; and
• breaching a release order (x3).

Barker is charged with:

• possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
• possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
• possession of proceeds of crime;
• breaching a firearms prohibition (x2);
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
• possession of a loaded restricted firearm; and
• defacing or removing a firearm serial number.

At the time of this writing, they remain in custody and are next scheduled to appear in court in Medicine Hat on Tuesday.
