Dawgs rally for 5 runs over last 2 innings to defeat Gulls 8-7 at jam-packed Seaman Stadium home opener

The Dawgs and Gulls played a thriller Friday night at Seaman Stadium in front of more than 6,000 fans.

The Okotoks Dawgs gave over 6,000 fans a happy ending Friday night, rallying for three in the ninth to defeat the Sylvan Lake Gulls 8-7.

Jeremy Kuiper beat out a grounder to bring home Connor Crowson for the winning run.

That came after Ricky Sanchez, Cal Gates, Leo Cote and Crowson all reached base to start the inning, setting the stage for Kuiper’s heroics.

In the eighth, the Dawgs plated a pair of runs to cut a 7-3 deficit to 7-5 on the strength of four consecutive singles from Cote, Crowson, Nash Crowell and Kuiper.

Another standout bat was Jayden Lusk, who contributed a pair of hits that drove in three runs.

A.J. Rogers started, allowing three runs in three innings. Brydon White pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the win.

The club also paid tribute to stadium builder Donald Seaman before the game as a celebration honouring the 20th anniversary of Seaman Stadium.

The Dawgs are back in action at the stadium Saturday night against the Lethbridge Bulls, weather permitting.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
