A longtime Barrhaven restaurant, known for its egg rolls and Canadian Chinese cuisine, is closing its doors after more than three decades in business. Wan’s Chinese Food, located at 3500 Fallowfield Rd., will permanently close on June 27, ending a 33-year run serving generations of loyal customers in the growing suburban community. In a note posted on the restaurant’s front door, the owners thanked customers for their support over the years. “Dear Customers, thank you for your support in the last 33 years,” the note reads. “Wan’s Chinese Food will be closing permanently, with our last day of service on June 27. Thank you for allowing us to serve the Barrhaven community for so long. With Heartfelt Gratitude, Wan’s.” The owners say they have decided to retire. The family-owned restaurant opened in 1991 and became a local favourite for its Cantonese, Szechuan and Canadian Chinese dishes. Customers often praised its egg rolls among the best in Ottawa, along with menu staples such as chow mein, garlic chicken wings and imperial shrimp.
