A cyclist who was struck by a vehicle Friday in southwest Calgary has died. Around 3:40 p.m. Friday, police responded to a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist at 17 Avenue S.W. and 101 Street S.W. Police believe a 2006 Land rover Ranger Rover Sport driven by a man in his 70s was making a left turn from eastbound 17 Ave. S.W. onto northbound 101 Street S.W. at the same time, a male cyclist in his 40s was riding an e-bike across 101 St. in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by the Land Rover. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Land Rover wasn’t injured and remained on scene. Alcohol, drugs and excessive speed were not believed to be factors.
