The Surge got the giddy up they needed from a friendly Calgary Stampede-sized crowd Thursday night at the Saddledome in front of a crowd of 5,148. The Canadian Elite Basketball League club returned home to the Saddledome Thursday, where they looked solid in a 95-80 win over the Vancouver Bandits. The victory was the club’s second straight, both over the Bandits after starting the season by losing 13 of their first 14 games. The Surge were led by David Joplin, who had 19 points, four rebounds and one assist. Overall, four different Calgary players scored in double digits, including 17 from Armani Chaney, 15 from Javonte Brown and 13 from Addison Patterson. Sean Rugzy Miller-Moore got the winning bucket in Target Score Time. Tevin Brown led the Bandits with 21 points and five rebounds, while rookie Dominic Parolin scored 17, and added two blocks and five rebounds. Vancouver found its footing in the first quarter, briefly grabbing a five-point lead, but that lead disappeared quickly and the club trailed for the rest of the evening. The win left Calgary’s record at 3-13 on the season, with eight regular season games remaining. Calgary is four games out of the final playoff spot. Next up for the Surge is a Sunday contest against the Sea Bears in Winnipeg. For more information about the Surge, go here.
