Calgary gets special mention by Trump during Charlie Kirk memorial

The City of Calgary was pointed to as an example of the support that millions of people around the world are providing to the family of slain conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

Donald Trump zeroed in on the Alberta community during his remarks at the five-hour-long memorial at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

“In the days since Charlie’s death, we have seen how his legacy has touched so many millions around the world,” Trump said.

“In Calgary, Canada, thousands gathered at city hall to sing the American national anthem and raise up posters with the name ‘Charlie Kirk.’

“So beautiful to watch.”

The leader did have the location for the vigil correct, but his estimation of the participants may have been a bit off.

On Sept. 14, there was a gathering of Kirk supporters at Calgary city hall, but the number of participants were more likely in the range of hundreds of people – not thousands.

Participants at the event did carry signs with statements such as “this is our turning point” and thanking Kirk for helping them find Jesus.

Kirk was shot and killed on Sept. 10 during an outdoor speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.

The alleged shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested days later.

During his speech on Sunday, Trump called him a “radicalized, cold-blooded monster” who may need “to pay the ultimate price.”

As for Kirk, who Trump announced would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the leader said his name will always be remembered.

“His name will live forever in the great chronicle of American patriots,” he said.

“He’s bigger now than ever before – he’s eternal.”
