The Calgary Airport is celebrating the opening of all its new security lanes for domestic flights. All nine lanes are now operational, which means nearly 2,000 passengers can clear through security per hour. The airport says that’s 70 per cent more compared to the old domestic screening configuration. “This next stage is about making a part of the airport journey every domestic traveller experiences more efficient so that folks can spend less time in line and more time relaxing before they travel,” said Chris Miles, Calgary Airports chief operating officer, in a media release. “With all nine lanes now open, we have greater flexibility to meet demand and more space to create a comfortable, welcoming experience.” New screening lanes use enhanced x-ray technology, which means passengers don’t have to remove their electronics, medical devices or liquids from their bags. “The national deployment of CT X-ray technology represents an important step in the continued modernization of security screening in Canada,” said Denis Perron, senior director of screening technology at the Canadian Air Transit Authority (CATSA). “Since beginning this multi-year deployment in 2024, CATSA has continued to expand the technology across the country, and we’re very pleased to see the expansion at YYC’s ABC Security checkpoint now complete,” Perron added. “The successful deployment at YYC demonstrates what can be achieved through close collaboration between CATSA and our airport partners, and we sincerely appreciate Calgary Airports’ support throughout this project. “This milestone reflects our shared commitment to enhancing aviation security and the passenger screening experience.”
