Calgarians took advantage of the hot autumn weather on Monday, with temperatures climbing to 24 C. “This is fantastic. I can’t believe the weather we’re having in October,” said Jeff Forbes while playing a round at Fox Hollow Golf Course. “I don’t usually get to golf in October.” Greg Griffith, head golf pro at the course, says they’re fully booked thanks to the heat. “We stay fully booked when you get these 20-degree days because people can see the end is near,” he explained. The hot weather is also helping attract customers to patios along 17 Avenue S.W. Ernie Tsu, owner of Trolley 5, says the weather provides “an instant boost” to business. “It’s a great extra revenue generator for not just Trolley 5, but all the restaurants that are on 17th,” he said. Tsu estimates his establishment sees an extra 50 to 60 people when weather is warm. “More people get out. You just see more people walk by,” Tsu said. However, the warm weather also means continued wasp activity. Eliona Ribalko, co-owner of Pest Detective Calgary, says the company is still getting three to four calls daily. “Until we hit the freezing mark overnight, we are still going to see the activity of wasps around,” she said.
