A push to raise cash to feed Calgary’s hungry grade-school students began Monday morning. Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids’ back-to-school campaign continues through Sept. 30. BB4CK, which marks 35 years in operation in 2026, says it “provides lunches for nearly 8,000 kids every school day in more than 290 Calgary schools.” But it also says that’s not enough. It says in 2025, more than one in three Albertan children were living “in a household experiencing food insecurity.” Over the next several weeks, BB4CK hopes to pull in funds to see fewer kids going hungry during the school days. Donations will be matched up to $350,000, the charity says. “The first day of school is approaching, and our community is preparing now,” said Bethany Ross, BB4CK executive director. “This campaign is an invitation for Calgarians to come together so nutritious lunches are ready for kids from Day 1, supporting a strong start to the school year.” BB4CK also encourages Calgarians to volunteer for kitchen shifts as a way of supporting the cause. More information can be found online at bb4ck.org. Donations and offers to volunteer can also be made through the charity’s website.
