After Monday, Calgary’s daytime highs will sit between 4 C and 9 C for more than a week

After a few days of cold and wet weather across southern Alberta, more seasonal conditions returned to end the weekend.

The daytime high in Calgary on Sunday was nearly 10 degrees warmer than Saturday, and almost five degrees warmer than average.

Monday will include slightly cooler temperatures around southern Alberta with highs around -4 C to -9 C.

A ridge of high pressure from the Pacific basin will start to edge into B.C. and then Alberta on Tuesday kicking off at least a week of consistently warmer weather.

Daytime highs in Calgary will range from 4 C to 9 C for at least a week starting Tuesday and, by the end of the week, the overnight lows will also be elevated.

The average range of temperatures in Calgary this time of year includes highs of -2 C and lows of -15 C. The overnight lows on Thursday and Friday will be warmer than the average high of -2 C.

These elevated values for both the highs and lows will enhance melting but could cause some challenges when new precipitation enters the region as that moisture will fall through near-freezing atmospheric temperature layers, potentially producing super-cooled water droplets, which can freeze on contact with cooler surfaces.

Rain, snow, mixed precipitation, and freezing rain are all possible Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in areas south and east of Calgary.
