Four students were pepper-sprayed, and one was punched near Saint Francis High School on Northmount Drive in northwest Calgary during the lunch hour, according to the Calgary Catholic School District. In a letter to parents, the school principal Marilyn Nasse said the students were off school property, across the street from the school near a Winks convenience store when masked individuals pulled up in a vehicle. The letter continues those people pepper-sprayed four students and punched another before leaving the scene. The pepper-sprayed students returned to the school, where they received treatment. The Calgary Police Service was notified and responded to the scene, the letter said. The parents and guardians of the injured students were notified, and the students are recovering well. School administration says CPS is investigating the incident and is also speaking with students as appropriate. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact school administration or police. Regular school operations continued as usual in the afternoon, as the incident occurred at a nearby strip mall. The school is encouraging parents and guardians to check in with their children to determine whether they need additional support. School counsellors will be available to speak with students who have concerns. CTV News Calgary has reached out to CPS for more information.
