One person has suffered critical injuries in a two vehicle crash along 17 Avenue Southeast resulting in a closure in both direction between 100 Street and Garden Road South. Police say the crash happened around 3:15 p.m. Sunday when an eastbound vehicle attempted to pass the slower vehicle in front and went into oncoming traffic. “The first vehicle was able to avoid the passing vehicle, but the one behind that vehicle ended up colliding head-on with the vehicle that was in oncoming traffic,” said Sgt. Sean Sherman with the Calgary Police traffic unit. “The driver of the vehicle that was making the pass has been transported to hospital in critical condition.” The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries but was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure. Police are not able to say when the road will reopen, but do expect to be on the scene for several hours. Motorists should expect traffic disruptions in the area.
