A 71-year-old woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle on Saturday. Police say the woman was walking southbound in a marked crosswalk at a three-way stop in the parking lot at the Northland shopping centre when she was hit by a westbound vehicle. It happened near a Wal-Mart at 5005 Northland Dr. N.W. around 3:30 p.m. Police say the driver remained on scene and is co-operating. “We want people to really pay attention to what’s going on around them,” said Sgt. Sean Sherman with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) traffic unit. “I think with cellphones and electronic devices in vehicles, people aren’t paying the same kind of attention they used to while they’re driving, and we really need people – especially now that the warmer weather is coming out and there’s more pedestrians out – to really keep an eye on their driving and the people around them, because we want to keep everybody safe.”
