Toyota, Tesla and other automakers announce recalls affecting more than 100,000 vehicles

From Toyota to Tesla, automakers have announced several recalls in October.

Affecting a total of 103,199 vehicles in Canada, the recalls are for everything from braking issues to steering problems and overheating batteries. For each recall, affected owners will be notified in writing so they can arrange repairs at a dealership.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Canadian vehicle recalls:

Ford Bronco and Escape

Ford is recalling 9,344 Bronco and Escape models over their failure to “meet the minimum stopping requirements of Canadian regulations.” The braking problem – which impacts 2021 Broncos and 2020 and 2021 Escapes – can be fixed by having the front brake pads replaced.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which is now part of Stellantis, is recalling certain Dodge, Alfa Romeo, Ram and Fiat models. Dodge Darts from 2013 to 2016 are being recalled for a gear shifting issue; Alfa Romeo’s Giulia and Stelvio models from 2020 to 2025 are being recalled over rearview camera problems; Ram Promasters from 2024 are 2025 are being recalled over a risk of suddenly losing power to the wheels; and Fiat 500e models from 2024 and 2025 are being recalled over a headlamp adjustment issue. These recalls impact a total of 8,106 vehicles.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai is recalling 13,153 Santa Fe SUVs from 2024 and 2025 over a short circuit risk caused by the improper installation of the starter motor’s terminal cover, which can increase the chance of fire or injury.

Nissan NV200 and Leaf

Nissan is recalling two models: the NV200 van from 2013 to 2021, and the Leaf electric car from 2021 and 2022. The NV200 models are being recalled over an engine stalling risk while Leaf models are being recalled because their batteries can overheat when in quick charge mode. Leaf owners are being advised to not use the quick charge feature until repairs are completed. A total of 16,409 Nissan vehicles are impacted.

Toyota Sequoia, Tundra and Tacoma

Toyota is recalling several recent Sequoia, Tundra and Tacoma models. The Sequoia and Tundra recalls are due to a rearview camera issue that affects 32,733 vehicles from 2022 to 2025. The smaller recall of 362 Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid models from 2025 is due to steering wheels that can’t be completely turned, which increases the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz EQB

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 837 EQB electric vehicles from 2022 to 2024 because their batteries can overheat and create a fire risk. The automaker is telling owners to set the maximum charge setting to 80 per cent until repairs are completed.

Chevrolet City Express

General Motors is recalling 2,135 Chevrolet City Express vans from 2015 to 2018 due to a fuel tank temperature sensor harness issue that can lead to the loss of engine power while driving, which increases the risk of crashing.

Tesla Model Y

Tesla is recalling just three Model Y SUVs from 2026 due to faulty reverse lamp wiring, which could cause others not to recognize when the vehicles are backing up.
