VANCOUVER — Telus Corp. reported a loss in its third quarter as it took an $800-million non-cash charge related to Telus Health. The company says its loss attributable to common shares amounted to $667 million or 42 cents per share for the quarter ended Sept. 30 compared with a profit of $493 million or 32 cents per share a year ago. On an adjusted basis, Telus says it earned 16 cents per share in its latest quarter compared with an adjusted profit of 24 cents per share in the same quarter last year. Operating revenue and other income totalled $5.03 billion for the quarter, down from $5.11 billion a year ago. The results came as Telus announced a plan targeting annualized cash savings of about $900 million by the end of 2028 as it looks to find cost and margin improvements and capital spending efficiencies. Telus CEO Victor Dodig says the company is moving to strengthen its financial foundation, hone its operational discipline and control costs, and deploy resources to drive profitable and sustainable growth and returns.
