TORONTO — Markets in Toronto and New York seemed unfettered by the escalating tariff conflict between the two countries on Tuesday, as both exchanges ended higher. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 243.51 points at 36,957.63. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 160.24 points at 53,577.40. The S&P 500 index was up 24.42 points at 7,677.28, while the Nasdaq composite was up 171.11 points at 26,151.30. The Canadian dollar traded for 72.26 cents US, compared with 72.24 cents US on Monday. The October crude oil contract was down US$2.65 at US$82.36 per barrel.
