TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up nearly 200 points in late-morning trading as gains in the base metal sector helped the Toronto market regain some of the ground it lost a day earlier. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 177.02 points at 36,544.95. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 239.03 points at 53,582.43. The S&P 500 index was up 42.22 points at 7,733.98, while the Nasdaq composite was up 118.86 points at 26,408.57. The Canadian dollar traded for 72.36 cents US compared with 72.00 cents US on Tuesday. The October crude oil contract was up US$1.09 at US$85.15 per barrel.
