TORONTO — Roots Corp. reported a loss of $6 million in its latest quarter as it set the date for a shareholder meeting to vote on its deal to be acquired by Marquee Brands. The retailer says it will hold a virtual shareholder meeting on Oct. 13 to vote on the friendly offer by the New York brand management firm to take the company private at a price of $4.10 per share. In reporting its latest financial results, Roots says its second-quarter loss amounted to 15 cents per share for the quarter ended Aug. 1 compared with a loss of $4.4 million or 11 cents per share a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, Roots says it lost eight cents per share in its latest quarter compared with an adjusted loss of nine cents per share in the same quarter last year. Total sales for the quarter amounted to $49.5 million, down from $50.8 million a year ago.
