A popular toolmaker has issued a recall for some of its chainsaws due to a laceration risk, Health Canada said on Thursday. The recall is for Milwaukee M18FUEL top handle chainsaws that come with either a 12- or 14-inch bar, the department said in a notice on its website. “The chain brake may not prevent the chain from moving when the brake is activated, posing a laceration hazard,” the notice read. “As of Oct. 21, 2025, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received two reports of incidents and one report of a laceration.” Health Canada said that the affected products were sold either individually or as part of a kit made by Milwaukee that bundled a chainsaw with one or two M18 lithium-ion battery packs and a charger. “Each product contains a nameplate label on the motor housing of the product that includes the chainsaw identification, catalog number and serial number,” said Health Canada. “The catalog number of the chainsaw remains the same whether it sold individually or in combination with another Milwaukee product, however the catalog number on the packaging may differ depending on what items are packed in the kit.” According to Milwaukee, around 7,500 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 90,860 were sold in the United States. The recalled products were sold from June 2023 to September 2024. Consumers are advised to stop using the affected products immediately and to contact Milwaukee for a free repair. The products can also be registered with Milwaukee online, Health Canada says, where users will receive a prepaid shipping label to return their product for repair.
