Police have recovered a body inside the rubble of a home that exploded in central New Brunswick.

The explosion happened Friday evening and levelled a two-storey home in Sussex Corner, a small town located about an-hour-and-a-half southeast of Fredericton.

A 51-year-old woman survived the blast and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. She was released from hospital on Saturday.

Later in the day, police confirmed that 53-year-old James Harvey Goddard died in the blast.

Police have said there are no natural gas lines in the immediate area and propane is not believed to be a cause either.

But investigators are aware that Goddard worked with explosives at construction sites.

Neighbour Melanie Hawethorne said the explosion was felt throughout the area.

"We heard a large boom, for lack of a better term. The house shook, it sounded basically like somebody had hit our mini-home, shook pictures off the wall, that kind of thing."
