Sugar rushes aside, Halloween should be safe experience. To that end, the Barrie Police Service is adding a little extra peace of mind to trick-or-treating, with Pumpkin Patrols in various neighbourhoods on Halloween night. Pumpkin Patrols with Barrie Police Auxiliary Officers in marked police cruisers, and Citizens on Patrol (COP) volunteers in the marked COP van will patrol the streets in Barrie. Each team will be armed with candy for all the ghouls, goblins, and masked crusaders. Having volunteers to help ensure our community is safe also means a more visible police presence on Halloween as excited children hit the streets. The volunteers will provide an extra set of eyes, helping identify and report any concerns they may come across while out in the community to police. Parents can help make the evening safe for everyone by talking with children about staying with their group, watching for cars, and knowing who to approach if they need help.
