Officials ran a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspection in Bolton Monday. Together, the ministry of transportation and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) inspected 78 vehicles, resulting in 52 charges laid to drivers and companies. Eighteen trucks were simply taken out of service. Provincial police say charges ranged from document infractions to major mechanical defects. One vehicle was found to have open alcohol inside. Mandatory alcohol screening tests were conducted and all drivers passed. Police say commercial vehicle inspections play a vital role in keeping Ontario’s highways safe. CMV inspections are looking for defective equipment, poor maintenance, and non-compliance. The violations identified during the blitz highlight the importance of ongoing CMV enforcement and the shared responsibility of drivers and carriers to ensure vehicles are safe and compliant before operating on public roads. Caledon OPP remains committed to the safety of Caledon’s roads and conducts CMV enforcement everyday with two dedicated members of the station’s Community Mobilization Unit trained as CMV inspectors.
