Snowmobiler airlifted after hitting steel gate on marked trail

Snowmobiler in Severn Township flown to GTA after crashing into a gate.

Emergency crews were called to a snowmobile crash in Severn Township Wednesday night.

Fire Chief Ritch Lowell with Severn Fire and Emergency Services told CTV News that his team received a call around 7:40 p.m. for a reported snowmobile incident near Carlyon Line and Division Road.

Initial reports suggested a collision involving a truck, but responders later confirmed the snowmobile had struck a steel gate on a marked snowmobile trail.

Provincial police and two ambulances from County of Simcoe Paramedic Services responded to the crash. Fire crews assisted police with scene control on both the road and the trail.

One person was transported to the hospital by paramedics and later taken by air ORNGE to Toronto as a precaution. Officials have not reported the extent of injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
