A Midland man will represent Simcoe County and Muskoka at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games. Adam Dixon has been added to the roster for the Canadian Paralympic Team in Para ice hockey. The games will be March 6 to 15 in Italy. “We are incredibly proud to announce the athletes who will represent Canada in Para hockey at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games,” said Scott Salmond, senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations. “This roster reflects years of dedication, resilience and commitment to excellence. The group has shown tremendous growth and belief in one another, and we are excited about the opportunity ahead. Our goal is clear—to compete with pride, represent our country with distinction and give ourselves the best possible chance to bring home a gold medal for Canada.” Dixon will play forward on the team, comprised of 17 players. According to the Paralympic Committee, Dixon is second-most experienced on the team as this will be his fifth Paralympic Winter Games. Dixon currently holds the record for most games played with the national Para ice hockey team at 252. He has won three medals at the games so far with the most recent in Beijing in 2022. Dixon played AAA hockey in his youth but was later diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. He had his right tibia removed, which was replaced with a donor bone, a metal plate and multiple screws. The cancer didn’t stop him from playing the sport he loved. He joined the Elmvale Bears Sledge Hockey Club when he was 11 and when he was 17, he was invited to try out for the national team. Dixon has brought his knowledge and expertise back to where it all started: the Elmvale Bears, where he was a player development director and elite-level coach. Canada is hoping to make it to the top of the podium, like it did in 2006. The Paralympics are a competition involving athletes from all over the world with a range of disabilities.
